Vancouver, Seattle, Vegas, Mar 99' - Personal Log

Seattle, Vancouver, Las Vegas, 99'

ahhh yes, this was the first flight i have ever taken where the crew outnumbers the passengers, but hell was it comfy, and they gave us the first class meals aswell. so i arrived in vegas at 12am on the dot, met up with toby, who had flown in from LA, and took in the strip for a couple of seconds before we had to depart for seattle. Perhaps on the way home i will miss my flight and have to spend an evening in good ol las vegas. arriving in seattle at 2:45am in the rain and wind, toby and I met our other friend scott, he lives in this wet city.

day 1 - after a quick nappy we ventured out to see the sites, there was the space needle, umm kinda lame, the troll, a carving under a bridge (neato!), um rain, umm that's about it. Seattle is actually very nice, a cross between san francisco and LA, and as a general note, everyone here must love teriyaki. nicks teriyaki, sushi teriyaki, thai teriyaki, the two twins teriyaki, and then some are all names of teriyaki joints at every corner strip mall, teriyaki has become a sort of unofficial mascot of my vacation. after getting lost several times, as i was driving(not sure why) , we found us a fish shack to get some grub and a beer. and then on to one of the many irish pubs.

day 2 - Today we ventured over to the Boeing tour, Boeing is based here so the tour took us through the assembly line of 747, it was pretty kool but they did not allow cameras so i have nothing to show of it. Although we did find out about a Boeing surplus store, think of it, airline seats in the living room?? or how about an airplane bathroom? On the way out we stopped by the Boeing cafeteria, only to find out that they don't serve airline food there, with great dissappointment we left and headed to the senior center for a teriyaki chicken burger. I then kinda dragged everyone over to Archie McPhee's Tiki Hut, but as i expected it twas not actually a tiki hut, it was just a store, a store much like uncle fun back in chicago. In the evening we ventured out with scotts friends to the Frontier bar. Cheap strong drinks were this places appeal, and the assexual jerry seinfeld looking lesbian bartender. we tossed a few back, hung out with some bitches scott had conversed with, and called it a night. last call here is a reasonable 2 am.

got to vancouver bc, ehh? a bit late but in one piece. as it was nite we decided to skip dinner and go to a live band joint called lamplighter, nothing to special little pub, butt when i saw a midget do a face plant down the stairs, i had to use every ounce of restraint i have to not bust out in a hardy laugh. also while sittin chillin with a beer we were approched 4 times by middle aged men wondering if we could score them some coccaine. apparently up here in British Columbia there is quite an active drug trade, ehh?. I even heard stories that it was ok to smoke pot in bars, though i did not witness it. we then ended up at a place called the purple onion, it was basically neo so we left and grabbed a 4 dollar(canadian) hotdog, ehh? i thought all the fun of the evening was over after i saw the midget thing, but scott, as accomodating as he is, kept the luaghs rolling with his slippery shoes. You see it rains here a bit just enough to make things good and slippery, the rest is history, whoooooop BAM!!! god it's funny seeing someone else get hurt, ehh?

Saturday we tried out the skytrain, an automated mass transit system, and ventured to different parts of the city. we explored the underground areas of the city aswell, there is much underground here as in canada it is cold so they just connect the buildings under the streets. this city is great, the people seem nice, ehh? tonight we are heading to gastown, perhaps i will find that tiki bar i had heard about. ehh? (see tiki reviews)

Sunday morning the three of us awoke to a horribly pulsating, very loud fire alarm going off at 9 AM. We quickly gathered the valubles and ran down the stairs. as it turns out the sprinkler system in the room next to us had accidentally gone off, leaving the people staying there a bit drenched, but no fire. As we were already awake we went to see more of the sites of vanvouver. The park of totem poles was nifty, i had wanted to take a cable car up into the mountains surronding the city, especially since i knew there were no F-16's in the area, but as weather was hindering the visibility, and the $18 (12 us) ride charge, we decided to forgo that event. We hit a shopping district of the city, the name of which escapes me, and ordered some burgers at a steak house, they don't seem to serve meat medium rare here, as i was glared at for suggesting there was more than one way to cook a burger. We then piled back into the car and began to head south to the good ol US of A. Canada is a trip, it's kinda like a sliders episode, things are kinda the same, but just different enough that you know something is afoot. At the border duty free shop i picked up my usual foreign beer (to add to the collection) and crossed over. And toby made it to.......fewww!!!

back in seattle, we got a pizza, rented a movie, drank some of my Canadian beer, and then it happened, T minus 15 hours to leave for chicago and i found a real live tiki bar in a newspaper at 5 AM mon morning. Tomorrow we go to LUAU, then the airport.

jokes of my trip to Seattle, Vancouver and Las Vegas 99;

Read this out loud til you get it;

I AM SOFA KING. We Todd did.

How did they name canada?

they got a big basket of consonents and drew letters;

C, ehh? N, ehh? D, ehh?

so, now at luau, the best damb tiki bar in seattle, i drank a few tropical delights and was actually a bit tipsy. I guess that's the advantage of gettin to know the bartender(or is it the disadvantage?). then toby and I realized we had only about 40 mins. to catch our flight home, so we dashed out and scott drove us quickly to el aeropuerto. Once upon the flight, i kept the libations a flowing, and buckled mr tiki mug in for the long flight home. but there was a catch, see i had a layover in Las Vegas, having never been to this mecca of sin before, i decided to take a looksy. Walking off from the airport, waving goodbye to toby, i thought about the flight i had just ditched and, well,

what the hell am I doing in Las Vegas????
